Jim
Chandler. Jim Chandler, the 455th Historian and heavy contributor
to this website. Jim is the son of John Chandler of Battery C of
the 455th and D of the 134th Infantry, 35th Division. (This is the
connection between Jim and Brenda…. their fathers were in C
Battery of the 455th and were both transferred to the 35th Division
in November of 1944.) I owe so much to Jim because of a letter that
I wrote to the 35th Division that he saw and got in contact with
me. This led me to the 455th and is the beginning of my story, which
has never ended after seven years.
On this site is Jim's diary of HIS trip back to WWII Europe to walk in his father's footsteps. He had written all about the unit, but never had been able to visit the sites of which he wrote. In 1999, Jim traveled back in time and on a trip to a very different Europe. But one that remembered what the American troops had done for them back in the dark days of the forties. I am confident that this trip was one of the milestones of Jim's life. Jim lives in North Carolina with Susan, his wife, and their much-loved dogs. |
