From
June 1, 2000 until June 7, 2000, veterans of the 455th AAA and their families
and friends are visiting England.
The main
purpose of the trip is to visit sites in England, where the 455th was
stationed, and of course the dedication of the Memorial, on June 6, 2000.
In the US,
the trip was organised by TriAnglia US, c/o Brenda Scalf-Burchfield, and
Alan Hollister, who arranged the flights from various cities in the US
to Gatwick Airport, London, England and back.
The group, through the help of KONECT Coaches, undertake day trips to
Kettering, Duxford, the American Military Cemetery at Madingley, there
will be a day's tour of North Norfolk, where the group will also see Stiffkey,
where they were on gunnery practice just before D-Day. A tour through
the beautiful Norfolk Broads east of Norwich and a visit to the city itself
are part of the programme. A visit to the site of the unit's "Tent
City" at the Watton airbase complete the visit.
The highpoint of the trip will obviously be the Dedication of the Memorial,
to which local dignitaries and representatives of the US Air Force and
the Royal Air Force as well as families and friends have been invited.
The Memorial itself was built by a local company.
After the
trip:
