Work
on the Flagpole and the Dedication Plaque
Please

The plaque donated by Brian will be placed in the flowerbed near the flagpole

Tony and Tom have taken out the flagpole to replace its base with a more
sturdy steel pipe set in a massive concrete foundation so it will withstand
the strong winds experienced

The steel tube will be painted silver and the whole flagpole mounted back,
and the flag will fly on Memorial Day. Check back then and see what it
finally looks like. We would also like to thank all the donors and contributors
who have made this possible.

In preparation for Memorial Day, the lawn was cut, also across the road

In this picture one can see the water tower, which featured as a landmark
in several pictures taken by RABBS in 1943. It is now obscured by post-war
housing originally used for RAF personnel, and currently several families
stationed at the American bases at RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall are
moving in.

On the Anniversary of the Dedication of the Memorial, June 6, 2001

Please check when we fly the flag here.
We
have also bought insurance for the Memorial running over 5 years, and
this will be extended to provide cover after that. The insurance covers
storm damage, theft, vandalism and anything else that might happen, and
it covers moving the Memorial for repairs in Brett's workshop. The Stoneguard
Insurance was arranged through The National Association of Memorial Masons
and is underwritten by The Royal & Sun Alliance plc.
