Where Andrew fell...

We found the place near Gerderath, Germany, where Andrew was lethally wounded...

Andrew in 1944

The small town of Gerderath today, viewed from the south west, from
where Andrew's unit (137th Inf. Reg.) approached in late February 1945

On the cemetery in Gerderath, we found German war graves, some showing the 27th of February 1945

Map of the area. Andrew's group proceeded from Haus Hastern in northwesterly
direction, crossed the stream and the main road between Gerderath and Altmyhl, ...

... and proceeded on the western side of the wooded ridge

The 137th E Co. advanced from here

Below the crater, on the left in this picture, two fallen birch trees (X marks the spot, as Tracey said)

The crater ripped by the grenade, and shrapnel from it hit Andrew...

... as he was this point (Adry's daughters placed the flowers)

This is the spot where Andrew fell, after being hit by shrapnel
(of which Adry later may have found some pieces)
from the grenade that exploded to the right of the picture (we saw
the crater there, slightly above the spot) hitting him in the right
side of his head

And he lies buried now in Margraten, Holland
